IS MEDICAL-GRADE SKINCARE WORTH THE COST?

One of the most common things we hear in clinic is that medical-grade skincare feels too expensive. It's a fair question, and worth answering properly rather than just saying trust us.
Start with the maths. A $220 serum, used correctly morning and night, typically lasts around three months. That works out to roughly $2.40 a day, less than most people spend on a coffee. The difference is that the coffee is gone in ten minutes. The $2.40 is working on your skin every single day.
What medical-grade actually means
Medical-grade skincare isn't a marketing label. It generally refers to products formulated with active ingredients at clinically effective concentrations, backed by an evidence base, and typically only available through a clinic rather than off a supermarket shelf. Over-the-counter products can still be good products, but they're often formulated at lower concentrations to remain broadly tolerable for anyone, rather than at the levels shown to make a measurable difference.
What that $2.40 a day is actually doing
Used consistently, medical-grade skincare can support several things at once.
Supporting collagen production, which starts to decline from your mid-20s.
Improving pigmentation and evening skin tone over time.
Strengthening the skin barrier, which affects everything from sensitivity to hydration.
Slowing the visible signs of ageing, gradually rather than dramatically.
Protecting and extending the results of any in-clinic treatments you've already invested in.
Give it time. Skin renews on a cycle of around four to six weeks, so most people notice a difference in tone and texture within two to three months of consistent use, not overnight. That's part of why it's an investment rather than a purchase.
Why it protects the rest of your routine
Skincare and in-clinic treatment aren't separate decisions. The right daily products can extend how long a treatment result lasts and improve how your skin responds to future treatments. Skipping the daily side of skin health while spending on occasional in-clinic work is a bit like renovating a house and never maintaining it afterwards.
How we choose what goes on our shelves
We're careful about what we stock. Every product at Kaia, including our recently added Simka range, was trialled and considered before it earned a place in clinic, not because it was trending, but because it aligned with how we already think about skin health. Where science meets simplicity is honestly the simplest way we can put it.
The real question isn't whether medical-grade skincare is expensive. It's whether your skin is worth a genuinely considered daily investment rather than a cheaper, inconsistent one. Most people already spend more than $2.40 a day on things that do far less for them.
If you're not sure which products are right for your skin, book a consultation and we'll talk you through a routine that actually fits your skin, your budget and your goals.
